Founded in 1913 as the Williams-Carr Lumber Company, Smithers Lumber Yard initially served as a key supplier for the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway’s expansion northward. In 1914, George Little integrated it into his chain of lumber yards, later passing ownership to A.C. Fowler and R.J. Collison in 1936, who renamed it Smithers Lumber Yard. In 1965, the Hofsink brothers (Fred, Bill, and George) acquired the company, which has since remained in their family. Fred’s three sons assumed control in 1998, and Harry, the second eldest son, has been the sole owner since 2013. Despite changes in ownership, the lumber yard has thrived, offering competitive prices and personalized service. Today, it employs approximately 20-30 individuals and actively supports the local community through donations and other initiatives
